Summer is here! If you’re anything like us, you love the warm weather but hate all the extra work it creates. With the end of school and beginning of summer, it is also time to get out and enjoy all that the weather can offer. We have all heard about how important it is to take care of our cars during the winter, but what about during the summer? Is there anything we need to do differently?
The answer is yes! While most people don’t think about their cars in the summer, they should! Here are some tips on how to take care for your car during the summer months:
Change Your Oil
The first thing you should do when the temperature starts rising is change your oil and filter. This may seem like an obvious step, but many people put off changing their oil until it’s too late. If you wait too long, then your engine could be damaged by all the dirt and debris that has built up in it.
Get the Check Engine Light Checked
If you have a check engine light come on in your car this summer, then we highly recommends getting it checked out by a technician before driving any further. This light could indicate that there is something wrong with your vehicle that needs immediate attention or else it could become much worse over time.
Make sure your windshield wipers are in good condition. If they are cracked or worn down then they will not be able to remove any debris from your windshield while driving. This could cause an accident which could result in injury or death. Also, if there is a lot of rain or snow then you will need your windshield wipers more than ever!
Check your tire pressure often. Tires lose air over time so make sure you check them often. You may need air put into them if this happens but always make sure you check them before taking a long drive so that you can avoid getting stranded somewhere without enough air in your tires!
Keep it cool. If you have a garage or covered parking spot, park in it whenever possible. If you have to park outside, try to position your car so that it faces east or west (rather than south) so that it doesn’t get direct sunlight on it for long periods of time.
